Kay Khan

Programme Manager

Kay’s musical journey started in 1979. She was drawn to the sounds of U Roy, John Holt, Dennis Brown to name a few masters of Reggae. It wasn’t too long before she discovered the voice of Noor Jahan and soon became mesmerised by Asian music, with a desire to sing Asian music. With English being her first language, she made it her mission to learn Urdu and Punjabi so that she could understand the essence of the music she had grown to love. Her first musical teacher, Naeem Salai threw her into the deep end and she soon uncovered amazing opportunities. Kay soon met Bali, a successful artist at the time who gave her her first taste of recording – she did vocals for the Rubicon mango advert. In 1988, Kay joined a band called Arti and enjoyed singing and creating music. In 1993, she was actively involved in event management and in 1994, she started to dabble in recording her own material whilst enjoying raising her family. She has performed at melas around the country whilst supporting at charity events. Her years of listing to a range of music from reggae to indian fusion has given her a keen ear for new modern sounds.
